Effects of Caffeine

I did a hub on coffee a while back. I like coffee and I thought it was a good hub at the time. After I wrote the article and did more research, however I have begun to change my mind on coffee, or at least on the amount that I drink. I have learned that caffeine may have a more detrimental effect on our body than I had ever suspected. Here is what I have learned over the past days that I have done my researching.

Caffeine effects the central nervous system. It is consumed by 90% of adults in North America each day. Many people add sugar and cream or creamer to the coffee that they drink. Coffee, like sugar, over stimulates the adrenal glans in the human body. This causes a weakening effect on the adrenals when caffeine is ingested in a persistent way, or in a chronic use.Sugar stimulates and weakens the adrenals and causes fatigue.Coffee helps us to stay awake, yet weakens the adrenals, by depleting them. People who drink a lot of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. need more or stronger doses of sleeping pills or tranquilizers in order for them to be more effective in aiding them in getting to sleep. Hot chocolate, coffee, tea, candy bars and colas, all have a lot of caffeine in them. Chronic use of caffeine(More than 6 or more cups of coffee or in addition, tea and colas) may have many of the following severe side effects:

Nervousness, Anxiety, Irritability, Tremors, Insomnia, Depression, Headaches, Upset stomach, Heart Burn, Diarrhea, Fatigue, Delusions or hallucinations, Dizziness, Lapses in judgement, Rapid Heart Rate, Irregular Heart Beat, Skeletal muscle tissue may be impacted, High Blood Pressure impacted in over use of caffeine. Increase in Cholesteral, Poor Concentration, and Frequent Urination. The withdrawal of caffeine has similar effects as listed above and may include heart attack in sever cases.

Caffeine affects the Adrenal glands and they have a direst and indirect effect on the body's immune system and how it operates in protecting the body from harmful bacteria and agents that may lead to chronic debilitating diseases. It has a direct effect on the kidneys and secretion of urine and effects the blood pressure and cardiovascular system. If a person is taking blood pressure medicine, then it opposes the actions that the medicine is trying to perform in helping to us reduce the flow of blood in a constricted way within the body. I take these medicines to control my blood pressure and did not realize the harmful effect it could be having in working against the two types of medicines that I have been prescribed. It seems that the bad outweighs the good effects that drinking coffee may have on the human body. I have been advised to reduce drinking coffee and limiting myself to three cups per day. Drinking cola and eating chocolate bars are usually more easy to contain in a more conservative way and tea does not have as much caffeine as coffee in its strongest forms. All should be consumed in moderation. This of course applies to eating as well.

Caffeine is a chemical that is found in leaves and seeds of plants, that acts as an insecticide and kills certain insects. It acts as a pesticide and paralyzes insects that eat the plant's leaves.

It is much like nicotine in that it occurs naturally within the plants and in tobacco or in the coffee plants or shrubs, and if these two poisonous substances can do that to insects, what can it do to human beings who are foolish enough in smoking and chewing, as well as swigging down 8 or more cups of coffee per day? It don't look too pretty!

Adrenalin is produced by the Adrenal Medulla, controlling heart rate and helps with changing of glycogen to glucose in the liver. The over ingesting of caffeine can interfere with the amounts of adrenalin produced. The withdrawal effects of caffeine are almost identical to the harmful effects and you may add heart attack to the list, if it is not dealt with properly. It should be limited in amounts used when a person is trying to withdraw from coffee drinking.Too rapid a withdrawal from the caffeine can cause more harm in this process. Anything that affects the immune system is certainly worth taking a closer look at in how much is consumed. The adrenal glands play an invaluable role in protecting the body and have a direct result in the overall metabolic processes. I learned that my meds that I take for cholesterol are impacted by too much caffeine. We have to be careful in what we seem to take for granted.

Coffee is a great drink and I have been consuming it for sixty years or more, and I am still alive. Coffee that has been decaffeinated is not all that great for us either and may also lead to a host of other problems in our health. I am glad that I did more research on coffee and its caffeine and I certainly will be more cautious in the amount that I drink each day. We all really should!
